General or Specific Keywords: Part II

Earlier this week, I explored the first portion of our guideline on the use of our keywords. This is a large guideline that has such an amount of information that one blog entry would not have covered the material effectively. This second installment will cover how we ask our advertisers to maintain their web pages as a whole.

One of main concerns is that our advertisers run sites that are formatted to be easily navigated by our users. We also require that their sites are able to provide a secure portal for users to enter personal information without the risk of identity theft or account fraud. It is a very real concern, and if not properly addressed, can hinder our growth and the businesses that our advertisers are trying to grow. This also addresses advertisers who would use our service to do just that: take advantage of our traffic for illegal actions. We also have a section that is meant to protect against accepting websites with content that could be offensive and detrimental. This is to maintain the integrity of our network in a different way: to maintain our personal standards.

Below is the second part of the guideline:

Website Interaction

Your Site's interaction with a visitor's computer must avoid altering user's browser behavior or setting such as back button functionality or browser window size.

Secure pages

In order to advertise a website requiring personal information such as, date of birth, social security, and/or dl/state id users must be directed to a secured page. For example, the destination URL must land on an https:// or have a working link to a secure page. We also require that e-commerce websites process their sales through a secure checkout which also displays https:// further ensuring the protection of the consumer’s credit card information and identity.

Illegal Content

Websites containing illegal content are not accepted on 7Search.com. We will not accept payment for delivering prospective buyers of illegal items. For example, child pornography, hacking websites, bestiality, illegal drugs and non-prescription online pharmacies are strictly prohibited.

7Search.com also prohibits the advertising of pirated goods on our advertising network.  A pirated good is defined as an unauthorized and complete copy of a copyrighted product, such as a movie, music or software.  Attempted distribution is strictly prohibited.

The website interaction section is meant for websites that have a mechanism that prevents a surfer from clicking away. This is a tactic to drive a surfer to eventually enter their data or make a purchase in order to leave the site. We want our users to be able to surf our network without the concern of being cajoled into an offer they do not wish to be a part of. The site should also not affect the user’s browser, causing the size, picture, etc, to be changed or altered. Oftentimes this is an indication that a virus is being transmitted to your hard drive.

The next section addresses our requirement that all checkout pages have a form of security software attached. There are several options available to the consumer for security software, some of which can de downloaded for free. The major brand names include McAfee, Symantec, and BitDefender. Perform a search and compare prices.

The software can be identified in the URL of the page. An example is https://www.abc.com. The “s” in the code indicates that a form of security has been added to the code of the site. We will not allow a site to advertise on our network without this software, and neither will your competition.

We police our network for such occurrences, but we are often “tipped off” by an advertiser who may be routinely checking out his marketplace. They will then contact us and report the possible offense. We take every request seriously, and perform our due diligence to investigate. We then contact the relevant parties. It’s another way we keep our users safe, and the playing field level.

The last section covers the obvious: we do not deal with criminals. We do not participate in illegal activities, or promote these actions. 7Search is a company that tries to reflect high character and principles. We work hard to maintain those standards, because that is good business in the long run.

In summary, we are here to create good business. We cannot do that if we are being involved in illicit activity. 7Search can be a very welcoming and helpful source to help your business, and we only ask that you keep your tactics above board. I hope this was helpful. Check in next week for more.
